Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026.

Summa is a free GPA calculator. We’ve tried to keep this policy readable. The short version: your grades and course entries stay in your browser, on your device. We don’t collect them, and we don’t see them.

What we collect

We use a small number of standard tools that collect anonymous, aggregated information so we can keep the site working and improve it. Specifically:

  • Google Analytics 4 — page views, browser type, country, and how you arrived at the site (search engine, referring link, etc.). IP addresses are anonymised before they reach Google. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising remarketing.
  • Google AdSense — places ads on the site. AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings.
  • Server logs — our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps standard request logs containing IP address, timestamp, requested URL, and user agent string. These are retained for a short period for security and debugging purposes.

What we do NOT collect

  • Your grades, courses, semester names, GPA values, or any input you put into the calculator. These are stored in your browser’s localStorage and are never transmitted to us. If you clear your browser data, they’re gone.
  • Your name, email address, or any other identifying information. Summa has no user accounts.
  • Information from other tabs, your device files, or any data outside the Summa page itself.

Cookies

We use cookies set by the third-party services listed above (Google Analytics and Google AdSense). We do not set any first-party cookies of our own. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or alert you when one is being set; consult your browser’s documentation if you’d like to do so.

Children’s privacy

Summa is intended for students, including those under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The only data children (or anyone) input goes into their own browser’s storage and never reaches us.

Third-party links

This site may contain links to other websites. We’re not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes meaningfully, we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top. Substantial changes will be flagged on the homepage for at least a week.
